One area that is becoming increasingly important is the interface between the fibers and polymers. The chemistry of sizing and surface treatments applied to the fiber play a critical role in the composite performing to an optimal level. Collaboration in concrete reinforcement or substitution with more sustainable material solutions needs our leadership in the construction and infrastructure ecosystem.\n\n\n\n\nEduardo Barocio\, Assistant Director of Additive Manufacturing\, Purdue University’s Composites Manufacturing & Simulation Center\n\nLSAM Research Laboratory at Purdue\n\n\nThe LSAM research laboratory at Purdue features a Thermwood LSAM printer and the corresponding 5-axis router to finish parts after printing. Paired with the LSAM lab capabilities\, the characterization equipment\, and the state-of-the-art predictive simulation tools developed at the composites manufacturing and simulation center at Purdue offer a unique ecosystem for material\, process\, and product development. This presentation will showcase an example of first-time-right printing enabled through ADDITIVE3D and validated against a part printed in the LSAM system. ADDITIVE3D is a validated physics-based simulation workflow for additive manufacturing.
