SUMMARY:Tech Tuesdays | The Impact Lightweighting will have on Small Manufacturers
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nManufacturers of transportation products whether it be automobiles\, aircraft\, boats\, trains\, are aggressively looking for ways to lightweight their structures to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. This requires adjustments throughout to supply chain to look at alternative materials and evaluate trade-offs of weight savings versus durability and cost. This session looks at both the challenges and opportunities this faces for suppliers of durable goods. The session will also feature representatives from the Lightweight Innovations For Tomorrow (LIFT)\, the United States‘ flagship manufacturing research institute for developing and deploying advanced lightweight materials manufacturing technologies\, and implement education and training programs to prepare the workforce\, as well as Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI)\, public/private partnership validates manufacturing technologies that respond to private industry’s need for faster and more cost\, material\, and energy-efficient composite manufacturing\, including recycling at the end of product life.
