DESCRIPTION
The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation, or IACMI – The Composites Institute®, managed by Collaborative Composite Solutions (CCS) Corporation is focused on strengthening U.S. manufacturing competitiveness through innovation, workforce development, and advanced materials. Based in Knoxville, Tennessee, IACMI brings together nearly 200 industry, academic, and government partners to accelerate advanced manufacturing technologies and develop the next generation of skilled workers. Established in 2015 by the U.S. Department of Energy, IACMI is part of the Manufacturing USA® network of institutes working to secure America’s global leadership in advanced manufacturing. Since 2019, IACMI has scaled up workforce programs for the U.S. Department of War (DoW), with support from the Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program within the Innovation Capability and Modernization (ICAM) office.
IACMI-The Composites Institute is seeking an Executive Vice President (EVP) with significant senior leadership experience, including close partnership with a CEO and executive team. Reporting directly to and working in close collaboration with the CEO, the EVP plays a critical role in advancing IACMI’s strategic priorities and ensuring the organization remains focused on its long-term vision. The EVP serves as a key liaison between executive leadership and broader organization, translating strategy into clear priorities and actionable plans while fostering alignment across teams. In addition, the EVP is responsible for cultivating and sustaining a high-performance culture across all levels of the organization, promoting accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. By strengthening performance and accountability, driving execution, reinforcing organizational effectiveness, and clear communication, the EVP will ensure key initiatives are successfully implemented and that IACMI operates with clarity, cohesion, and purpose.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Partner closely with the CEO to advance IACMI’s strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with the organization’s long-term vision and mission
• Translate high-level strategy into clear, actionable priorities, implementation plans, and execution strategies across the organization
• Provide direct supervision and oversight to the executive leadership team, ensuring alignment, accountability, and high performance across functional and programmatic areas
• Drive execution of enterprise-wide initiatives, establishing accountability structures and ensuring timely delivery of key outcomes
• When delegated, represent the CEO in meetings and strategic discussions with stakeholders
• Serve as a central liaison between executive leadership and staff, ensuring consistent alignment, understanding, and execution of organizational goals
• Foster and sustain a high-performance culture across all levels of the organization, emphasizing accountability, collaboration, engagement, and continuous improvement
• Strengthen organizational effectiveness by evaluating and enhancing internal processes, staffing levels and structure, performance management systems, and cross-functional coordination
• Ensure clear, consistent, and transparent communication of strategic priorities, expectations, and organizational direction throughout the enterprise and to external stakeholders
• Monitor organizational progress against strategic objectives and key performance indicators, providing guidance and intervention as needed to ensure success
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and alignment to reduce silos and improve efficiency in executing organizational initiatives
• Provide strategic input to the staffing plan to ensure adequate coverage for long-term sustainability based on available funding
• Manage approvals for travel, expenses and timesheets for the executive leadership team
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 7-10 years of senior leadership experience, including close partnership with a CEO or executive team
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Proven ability to translate strategic vision into actionable plans and drive organization-wide execution
• Strong experience aligning cross-functional teams and leading complex initiatives
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
• Experience in creating and delivering presentations and comfortable speaking in front of audiences of various sizes
• Demonstrated success improving organizational effectiveness and managing change
• Experience establishing processes, tracking performance, and ensuring accountability
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Live in the southeastern U.S. region with quick access to Knoxville, TN
• 10+ years of executive responsibility for a successful company with 100 or more employees
• Advanced degree in business or engineering
• Experience providing leadership for a government contracting service organization associated with composites R&D, manufacturing, or related industry
• Experience in a membership-based, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization
• Experience with rapid organizational growth
• Reside in TN, MI, OH, IN, FL, WV, NC, TX, PA
